The Throwaway War
About the movie
My buddy Benjamin Singer directed the
2008 Inspire Films grant winner, The Throwaway War. It follows the emotional journeys of formerly incarcerated drug offenders as they seek to turn their lives around in Chicago. It addresses the drug epidemic in a new light: a shift from focusing on despair and blame, to personal salvation and communal cooperation. The Throwaway War provides a story of hope and redemption, and ultimately, a way forward.
My involvement
I was so excited to jump on board this project because of what it was aiming to do. I offered my skills in camera operating and editing and had a blast going out with other crew members on various shoots. Months into the project, we were asked to create some minute-long profile videos to feature each character in the film. Since I was on set helping to film this interview, I took on the challenge of editing the video for Rob. Here it is:
